Sensible Dog Bite Protection

According to State Farm's national annual claims report, California has the most dog bite claims in the United States. Following California are Illinois, Ohio, Florida, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, New York, and Indiana. Grooming Tips For Maltese Dogs

Certain grooming tips apply to a variety of dog breeds, but most dogs have certain specific issues requiring more attention than others. The Maltese is a small, spirited breed first developed in Italy. They make great pets for mature and senior pet owners, people with allergies, and city-dwellers as they are happily active within a house, and actually prefer enclosed spaces. However, part of being a good dog owner is making sure that your dog is well groomed, and Maltese dogs require a little bit of extra care in that department. Proper grooming is not only important for aesthetic reasons; a well groomed clean coat is an important aspect of your dog's xxxxxxxxxxxxx [...]

Protect Your Pets from Pets & Parasites

Taking your dog to social gatherings such as the dog park, obedience classes, or doggie daycares can be fun for both you and your dog. Allowing your pet to go outside is very important for exercise and socialization. This is especially true for young puppies aged six to fourteen weeks old because they need exposure to other dogs, people, and environments to promote good social skills. Without this, puppies may develop behavioral problems, such as aggression. [...]

Spring Cleaning For Homeless Pets

As a kid, the first warm breeze heralding spring also marked the weekend Mom would roll up her sleeves and take to the house like fury with a personal vendetta against dust.  It was the weekend my sister and all our animals geared up, cleared out, and spent a muddy day outside.   Our various pocket pets (in their appropriate enclosures), followed by two house-bound felines (harnessed, leashed, and objecting with fur-flying fervor) and one delighted Irish wolfhound would take to the backyard while Mom went to task on a winter’s worth of dirt, stale air, and expendables. [...]

Free To A Good Home

During my last year of school studying abroad I spent a lot of time on Craigslist.  It’s where I got my furniture, my books, a lamp, some binders, a mattress, a mover…  On a student’s budget, Craigslist is a goldmine; a vast, virtual garage sale where quality is questionable but the price is right.  It’s a place for penny pinchers, bargain hunters, travelers, artistes, new-to-the-city students, back-to-the-city students, and regular working folk looking to save a buck or make a buck.  It’s great for old fashioned people like me who prefer to buy things from people but enjoy the convenience of finding them online.  It’s great for just about anyone—and therein lays the problem. [...]

Dog Muzzles: Types & Training

No dog owner likes to think about putting a muzzle on their dog but depending on the type of dog you own and where you live, using a dog muzzle may be a necessary part of your pet-owning life.  Breed specific legislation (or “BSL”) in a number of provinces and states across North America mandates certain breeds, or dogs bearing the appearance of a banned breed, are required to wear a muzzle when off private property or out of a secured pen.  BSL aside, individual dogs known to act in a threatening manner toward strangers or other animals can greatly benefit from wearing a muzzle, and with careful selection and appropriate training, it doesn’t have to be the distasteful experience most pet owners associate with dog muzzles. [...]
